what we’ve learned over the past months (years?) of gradually watching every sandler movie is that you can never hope for the best (or even an okay time.) despite this, spanglish captured our hearts. i knew we were in for at least an okay time when i checked ‘hot lady big bazongas’ off of my bingo card within 30 seconds of the opening but even then i could barely believe that we were all sucked into caring about this fucking movie.
even more astonishingly i had to make peace with the fact adam sandler is kinda hot in this one. maybe its a reverse cheerleader effect where if you look at paz vega for long enough you start to see beauty in this world again but regardless my brothers in sarms (sandler arms) did not hold space for me when i shared such a profound vulnerability and i do resent them for that.
anyway this movie was a solid 8.5/10 for me and i was surprised to see it panned by critics which i can only assume was due to #reverse racism for white women
